Mamata Banerjee on Saturday claimed that her Government will pitch for a judicial inquiry into the incidents of Baduria and Basirhat. So far, ten IPS officers have been transferred across the state in wake of the present violence. Speaking about the Darjeeling unrest and indefinite shutdown, Chief Minister Banerjee appealed to the masses to not resort to violence and make peace. The CM lashed out at the Centre alleging it of adopting a non-cooperative attitude in connection to the matter. "The Centre has a non-cooperative attitude; the border areas are being disturbed with foreign hands having good relations with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)," she said, while addressing a press conference. Heavy security forces have been deployed in and around the area in the wake communal violence that broke out in Baduria and Basirhat areas of North 24 Parganas district. Violent clashes erupted in the Basirhat area after a Class 10th student allegedly updated a controversial picture on Facebook. The boy was later detained by police.
