वाइल्ड लाइफ की चर्चा में यदि गैंडों की बातें न हों तो अधूरापन सा लगता है . बच्चों को टाइगर-हाथी जैसे जंगली जानवरों को देखना जितना रोमांचक लगता है, उतना ही रोमांच गैंडों को देखने से भी महसूस होता है. विश्व में वर्ष 1900 से लेकर 2000 के बीच बेतहाशा शिकार ने गैंडों की संख्या 5 लाख से सीधे 50 हजार से भी कम पहुंचा दी इसलिए गैंडों की सभी पांच मौजूदा प्रजातियों- ब्लैक राइनो, व्हाइट राइनो, ग्रेटर एक-सींग वाले राइनो, सुमात्रा राइनो और जावन राइनो की रक्षा करने की जरूरत के बारे में जागरूकता फैलाने के लिए हर साल वर्ल्ड राइनो डे मनाया जाता है
