भारत मेजबानी में आईसीसी वनडे विश्व कप की शुरुआत 5 अक्टूबर से अहमदाबाद में होगी. इस बार 10 टीमें हिस्सा ले रही हैं. पांच अक्तूबर से भारत चौथी बार विश्व की मेजबानी करने जा रहा है. हालांकि शुरुआत में विश्व कप 1975 से 1983 तक इंग्लैंड की मेजबानी में खेला गया था. बीसीसीआइ की नाराजगी के बाद 1987 में भारत व पाकिस्तान को मेजबानी मिली थी. पहली बार एक दिवसीय विश्व कप (1975) का आयोजन किया गया, तो मेजबानी इंग्लैंड ने की. 1979 में भी इंग्लैंड की मेजबानी में विश्व कप खेला गया. दोनों बार विश्व विजेता वेस्टइंडीज बना. वर्ष 1983 में फिर यह दायित्व इंग्लैड का मैरीलेबोन क्रिकेट क्लब (एमसीसी) ने संभाला. हालांकि 1983 में कपिल देव की कप्तानी में भारत पहली बार विश्व विजेता बना, तो एशिया में क्रिकेट का कद बढ़ गया.
