Kathmandu (Nepal), Nov 05 (ANI): Tihar festival, also called Yama Panchak or Deepawali, celebrations began on Monday with worshipping of crow as messenger. Also known as the festival of lights, people celebrate Tihar by lighting their houses with butter lamps. In the first day of Tihar, people offered offerings to crows as repay for its service of delivering of message. The crowing of crow in front of the house is expected to bring good or bad news. It is a five-day festival, which comes soon after the DashainFestival. The festival is celebrated for five days by performing various rituals. On the second day of Tihar, dogs are worshipped and it is commonly known as KukurTihar. Cows are worshipped on the third day and it is commonly known as Gai Tihar and Laxmi Puja, worshipping the goddess of wealth- Laxmi, is also done. On the fourth day, sisters put “Tika on forehead of their brothers, and pray for their long life.
